Having Okra Gumbo

It is almost pear season...and cross my fingers, the old tree has pears.  Hubby eats as many fresh ones as he can...he like them crisp, so he has already started eating some. Today I sliced one very thin, sprinkled it with cinnamon and baked for 2 hours in a 220 degree oven.  Well alright! I did not peel or add sugar.  They were pretty good and Hubby liked them. So now to make a decision...dehydrator or not.  We can always store it after the new wears off and we don't use it anymore.  I just can't make up my mind.

We had Okra Gumbo tonight for supper.  Mine had chicken and Hubbys had hamburger meat.  The meats gave the gumbo an extra layer of flavor.  Haaaa haaa now that sounds like a cooking show...Cooking show aside- it was good.  I remember growing up and mom cooking gumbo..yuk.. I just didn't like it, and probably didn't eat any either. I was that kind of child.   I can remember it being runny with no flavor.  Mine on the other hand is bursting with flavor and I cook off some of the liquid so it is not so thin.  Onions and garlic---garlic and onions...and canned tomatoes of course.

Well take care until next time.

  1. I think that's a great idea to dehydrate them! You can take them on the road easily and have a snack.
