Now It's Pears

I thought they were later in the year!  Not so for these pears.  I think it has something to do with the weather..sounds like a good theory?  Anyway, there is no way to eat all the little rascals, so I started some cooking this morning.  I try to just do one pot at a time....peeling is the hardest part.  But, by now they are just coming out of the water bath.  Little jars.  Cute for a little gift.

I had to stop for a snack...the oatmeal just didn't carry me to lunch time, so I had lunch a little early.  Small hard roll, 1/2 teaspoon of Miracle Whip and some lunch meat.    ?? maybe down 12 lbs.  I am hanging around the 10, 11, 12 mark....Just need to relax and hang  out here for awhile.

A load of clothes needs to be moved to the dryer...Oh thank you for modern times.



Well, I need to lift the jars out of the water bath.

Pear Season is Starting

We have an old, old pear tree and it has pears this year.  They are suppose to be getting ripe in October, but we are starting to pick now----birds, racoons, etc.. are helping themselves.
I have a small pot cooking right now.  I am trying to re-create my mom's recipe...pears and sugar. 

So, are there any tried and true recipes out there for fresh pears?

Pears are Ready

This week has just flown by.  Two trips out of the canyon plus another one today.  Where does the time go? It is pear time here and I am going to, or a friend is going to help me can some pears.  It will make the job quicker, since they all have to be peeled.  That is the worst part.  I don't like to peel.  Each year I try to come up with a way to get out of peeling.  Yes, some of the jars from last year have unpeeled fruit.  Not such a good idea...  One year, I ground it all up...not such a good idea.  So, sigh, I guess this year we will peel all of them.  This lady is past the 75 mark, so she remembers canning in the "good ole days".  You know, hot stove, hot kitchen, hot, hot, hot.  O.K. no more complaining.
