What is It?
Hubby looked up on the side of the mountain and ask ...what is that red...it was about 350 yards from where we were. We both picked up our field glasses to take a look...it was beautiful...he left right then to climb up and take a picture for me since they won't last long.

Echinocereus Fendleri or Pinkflower hedgehog cactus
http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=ECFE
This is a native to Texas and I almost missed seeing it up close and personal. I looked out the window this afternoon and there was a splash of color at the end of the "garden" spot. Can you believe it? The dear deer did not take the blooms off...maybe I am learning a valuable lesson. I know there are some blooms they will take...like the yucca for instance, but I may start thinking cactus instead of lilies.
