Crunch in the Pumpkin Cake

Well, it is embarrassing to say the least.  At least I wasn't serving this cake to visitors.  Ahhhh, enjoying a nice bit of pumpkin...crunch, crunch ....oh my, what was that?  Did I miss a piece of egg shell?  I don't think so.  I mean, as many crunches that was in this cake, it would have been a big piece of shell. 
           I did use the top brand of canned pumpkin, so I can't blame it on the "off brand".  Is it the nutmeg?  
           Next time, I will check the nutmeg...anyway, that kind of ruins the idea of a pumpkin cake or pie.
            Any ideas?

  1. UGH! This has happened to me too! You are eating a piece of pumpkin pie and crunch, crunch, crunch. Kind of ruins it, doesn't it? I don't think it's the seasoning because I'm pretty sure I used a can in a cake mix and still had crunch. Somehow I eliminated the spices. I think it's grit in the pumpkin! That is one reason I started freezing my own. Unfortunately I didn't do that this year...bummer. Yeah, isn't it terrible?!
