Hamburger Pot Roast

 HB Pot Roast

I wanted to put something in the crock pot that would be ready when we got home for lunch on Sunday.   I had a whole frozen chicken or 1 1/2 pounds of HB meat.  Well, I didn't want to thaw out a whole chicken, so that left the hamburger meat.  So into the microwave it went on the defrost mode.  I went to get dressed and do my hair...hmmmm I smelled something that was like a fire...right away I knew what it was.  Hurrying into the kitchen, there was a quarter size fire in the microwave...did you know that a fire in the microwave has enough oxygen to burn?  Yes, it does.  Anyway, I knew what I done...you know those metal twists that are used to close a plastic bag?...well, I had left that on the bag.  That is what happens when you are in a hurry.  It was about 8:45---we leave at 9:30.   I scrapped off the melted part of the  plastic bag from the microwave tray and got the meat into a bowl. I added about 1/4 cup quick oatmeal that I had soaked with buttermilk...you could use sour cream...finely chopped celery (1 rib) and finely chopped onions (1/8 cup).  Salt, pepper, and garlic powder...1 Tablespoon ketchup and one egg.  Stirred it all up and formed it into a loaf  ready to roll  into the crock pot. Sometime during 8:45 and 9:00, I peeled 3 carrots and sliced into a microwavable bowl with water. I cooked them until the water was hot then drained and put the carrots on the bottom of the pre-heated crock pot and laid the "roast" on top of the carrots. After the "roast" was in the crock, I topped with 1 Tablespoon + ketchup and about 1 Tablespoon brown sugar.   It cooked for about 3 hours on high. Of course, you can add as much celery and onions as you want.  It was a good roast.  Now some may say that it was just a meatloaf, but I think Hamburger Roast sounds better.  And it was tender and moist..not dry and tough...
