Chorus:
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
I had never thought about this old song being based on something that is true..you know a writer has to make it rhyme...but this morning, and other mornings, I saw the fawns playing. It is a beautiful and cool morning and there is not a cloud in the sky.
Anyway, they would use the brush and stumps as an obstacle course...they would run and jump and dodge each other. One time the mother even did a little side step and dodge with one of the babies. She didn't have as much energy as the fawns...but there were no discouraging words...I think I saw her smiling and laughing with her babies.
So, where the deer and the antelope play is really true. The deer do play.
